Course Outline

Students who participate on this course either go on to practising exclusively as clinical hirudotherapists, or they are existing massage or physical therapists wishing to expand the range of treatment modalities offered by their practice or clinic.

The Professional Certificate in Clinical Hirudotherapy – Synosteology Specialisation, covers all the fundamentals of hirudotherapy practice, before concentrating on the treatment of conditions of the joints.  This will include a range of arthritis conditions including gout and TMJ pain, as well as some specific sports injuries.

Those who successfully complete the course, may choose to embark on other continuing professional education (CPE) courses, that include hirudotherapy applications in neurology, ophthalmology, dentistry, and cardiology.

Course participants become student members of the European Institute of Hirudotherapy, and upon successful completion of the course are eligible for full membership.

All the institute’s programmes are delivered by way of blended learning; a combination of online delivery and traditional classroom based practical sessions.  Full tutor support is provided for the online components.
